Yankees and Blue Ridge Communications Ink 30 Game TV Deal 03/21/2008 4:05 PM ETScranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees
The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees and Blue Ridge Communications have agreed on a broadcasting partnership that will televise 30 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees home games from PNC Field during the 2008 season. Blue Ridge 13 will carry 30 of the Yankees 72 home games during the upcoming season. BRC 13 begins its broadcast schedule during the Yankees season opening home stand vs. the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on April 4 beginning at 7:00 p.m. The BRC 13 schedule is loaded with games against the Yankees top divisional rivals. 18 of the 30 games televised in 2008 will be against International League North Division opponents. In addition to the first broadcast of the season against Lehigh Valley, four additional games vs. the IronPigs will be aired on August 14, 15, 22 and 23. Yankees fans will see the Pawtucket Red Sox on May 18 and on August 7. Divisional games vs. Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and defending International League champion Richmond. "Adding Blue Ridge Communications to our broadcasting lineup is a great addition for us," said Yankees Executive VP/COO Jeremy Ruby. "With the 30 games on BRC 13 we can give our fans the chance to watch more games and to see all the excitement of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees Baseball in 2008." Through a partnership with Blue Ridge Communications, customers of Service Electric Cable TV as far north as Wilkes-Barre and as far south as Allentown will be able to watch Yankees Baseball during the 2008 season. The increased area will cover more than 350,000 households in NEPA and the Lehigh Valley. "We're excited to be a part of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees Baseball and to be able to offer these games to our viewers," said Blue Ridge Communications TV 13 General Manager Kim Bell. "We're looking forward to many exciting nights at PNC Field during the 2008 season." BRC TV 13 veteran Sports Director Bob Capasso will call the action and will be joined on the broadcasts by analysts Dean Corwin and Jim Riley. Capasso is a Sports Anchor/Reporter for Blue Ridge Cable's newscasts on TV 13 as well as Producer/Host of Sportscene 13 and Monday Evening Quarterback and Play-By-Play announcer for BRC's sports cablecasts.
