SWB Yankees alumni help in World Series title
11/06/2009 2:08 PM ET

They may not have been wearing the SWB logo on their hats Wednesday night, but the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees played a part in helping the New York Yankees win their 27th World Championship Wednesday night.

Of the 45 different players who wore the New York Yankees uniform this season, an amazing 30 played for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees since 2007 – including 10 who were on the final World Series roster.

Additionally, seven players, including the “core four” came through Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s facility as members of visiting teams – Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte, Jorge Posada, Robinson Cano, Chad Gaudin and Jerry Hairston, Jr.

“We are excited to be able to say two thirds of the World Champions played at PNC Field and that we were able to play a small part in the Yankees championship run,” said team president Kristen Rose. “It shows the unique opportunity fans in northeastern Pennsylvania have in being able to see players in their own back yard before they become Major League stars.”
