Ernesto Mejia, Gwinnett

Now in his eighth season in the Minors -- all with the Braves, apart from spending 2010 in the Royals' system -- Mejia has long been a productive hitter. The 26-year-old set career marks with 26 homers and 99 RBIs with Double-A Mississippi last year, but did not reach Triple-A until this spring. After a slow start, the burly slugger has come alive in May and is currently riding a 10-game hitting streak during which he's hit .444/.487/.861 and fanned just three times. Mejia had four multi-hit games this week and has scored in nine of his last 10 outings.

Pacific Coast League
Mike Hessman, Oklahoma City

Speaking of long-productive hitters, few are in the class of Mike Hessman, who has 339 Minor League home runs -- the most of any active player -- to his credit since breaking in with the GCL Braves in 1996. Hessman struggled in 48 games in Japan last year but has rediscovered his stroke since returning to the States with Oklahoma City. The 34-year-old homered twice and drove in five runs against Tucson on Tuesday, then went 5-for-5 with two more longballs, a pair of doubles, a walk and four RBIs at Reno on Thursday.

Eastern League
Kyle Bellows, Akron

A fourth-round pick out of San Jose State in 2009, Bellows hit three home runs in 123 games with the Aeros last season. The 23-year-old third baseman had three in a span of five games this week, highlighted by a 4-for-5 performance in Akron's 16-3 rout of Richmond on Friday. Bellows doubled, scored twice and delivered his second career grand slam in the win. He's slugging .541 in May -- nearly double his .276 mark in 18 April games -- to help Akron to the league's best record.

Southern League
Blake Smith, Chattanooga

Chattanooga won five of its six games this week, faltering only against Huntsville on Friday in Smith's lone hitless game of the stretch. He and the Lookouts bounced back the following night with a 5-4 win over the Stars, with the 24-year-old Smith going 4-for-5 with a triple, two doubles and four RBIs. The University of California product contributed a homer and four more RBIs on Sunday. He leads the Lookouts with six homers, 27 RBIs and 25 runs scored in 42 games this season.

Texas League
Kolten Wong, Springfield

The Cardinals made Wong, now 21 years old, the 22nd overall pick in last year's Draft and sent him straight to Class A Quad Cities, where he hit .335/.401/.510 in 47 late-season games. The precocious second baseman's numbers are nearly identical after jumping to Double-A this season, where his .331 batting average is second only to that of NW Arkansas' Wil Myers, who was just promoted to Triple-A. Wong, MLB.com's No. 100 prospect, had five consecutive multi-hit games this week, including a 4-for-5 outing at Arkansas on Thursday.

Chris Owings, Visalia

The 41st overall pick in the 2009 Draft, Owings struggled in his California League debut last season, hitting .246/.274/.388 with 130 strikeouts and 15 walks in 121 games. The 20-year-old shortstop has seen vast improvement in his return to the Rawhide this year -- he's hit nine homers in 45 games already after jacking 11 all last season. Owings had back-to-back four-hit games at High Desert on Tuesday and Wednesday -- falling a triple shy of the cycle both times -- then went 3-for-5 against San Jose on Thursday, lacking only a homer to complete the feat.

Kevin David, Wilmington

Blue Rocks backstop Kevin David got off to a miserable start to the season, hitting .214/.262/.339 in April but has rebounded with a .327/.377/.490 line in May. The 24-year-old Oklahoma State product has thrived in high-leverage situations, having hit .410 with runners on base and .375 with men in scoring position. David went 3-for-4 at Lynchburg on Monday -- at the time, just his fifth multi-hit game of the campaign -- then added two more on Wednesday and Friday, the latter a 3-for-4 performance against Myrtle Beach that included his second homer of the season.

Florida State League
Carlos Alonso, Clearwater
(.545/.583/.909, 6 G, 12-for-22, 2 2B, 2 HR, 10 RBI, 5 R, 1 BB, 3 K)
After going 0-for-4 at Dunedin on Monday, Alonso's season batting average stood at .282. By Sunday it was .360, thanks to five straight multi-hit games in which he went 12-for-18 with two homers and 10 RBIs. The 24-year-old University of Delaware product played two games in left field, two at second base, one at shortstop and one at third base, but none of the stresses of fielding different positions seem to have affected his hitting. Alonso's three homers this year (in 27 games) are already a career high.

Midwest League
Mike Antonio, Kane County

It's been an up-and-down season for Antonio, a third-round pick out of George Washington High School in New York in 2010. The 20-year-old infielder had an eight-game hitting streak in April but went 0-for-29 over an eight-game stretch between April 29 and May 10. This week was solidly up, as the Royals' No. 16 prospect had three hits on both Monday and Tuesday -- missing the cycle by a triple in the former -- homered again on Thursday and went 4-for-8 over the weekend. The two longballs were his first of the season after hitting 11 in short-season ball last year.

Samuel Mende, Asheville

The Tourists have won nine of their last 11 games, corresponding closely with infielder Samuel Mende's 10-game hitting streak. The 22-year-old had at least two hits in seven of the 10, including four this week, and has scored in each of his last six contests. While apparently benefiting handsomely from Asheville's cozy, high-altitude McCormick Field -- Mende is hitting .355/.414/.710 with all five of his homers at home and .276/.300/.395 on the road -- the first five games of his current streak were at Rome and Greenville.
